Experts on the matter have pointed out that the initiatives of criminal groups in the face of the pandemic are not a sign of benevolence or solidarity, but from various personal political calculations. Three major factors drive this type of measure: reaffirm and project territorial control, collaborate with the government to have arguments in future negotiations, and their own interests to act without the magnifying glass of the citizenry.

During the period of curfews, implemented by the Sinaloa Cartel, the northern entity was ranked as the second region with the highest number of deaths from coronavirus.
