Pope Francis has called for a “global and immediate” ceasefire that allows peace and security “Necessary to provide urgently needed humanitarian assistance.”

“The call for an immediate and global ceasefire, which enables the peace and security necessary to provide urgently needed humanitarian assistance, is commendable.”Francis said this Sunday after his Angelus prayer at the Holy See.

During his speech, he recalled that, this week, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution preparing some measures to deal with the “devastating” consequences of the Covid-19 virus, particularly for areas that are already in conflict.

After more than three months of negotiations, the UN Security Council finally joined on July 1 to pass a resolution supporting the appeal of the head of the organization, António Guterres, to a global truce during the pandemic.

In this sense, the Pope has wished that this decision be implemented “Effectively and quickly for the good of many suffering people”. “May this Security Council resolution become a courageous first step towards a peaceful future”, has specified.

Francis explained that the Gospel passage on this Sunday (cf Mt 11: 25-30) is divided into three parts: In the first place, Jesus lifts up a hymn of blessing and thanksgiving to the Father, because he revealed to the poor and simple the mystery of the Kingdom of heaven; then it reveals the intimate and singular relationship that exists between him and the Father; and finally invites you to go to him and follow him to find relief.

Likewise, stressed that the world “exalts” the rich and powerful and sometimes “tramples” on the human person and his dignity. “And we see this every day, the poor trampled. And it is a message for the Church, called to live the works of mercy and to evangelize the poor, to be meek, humble. So the Lord wants it to be His Church, which is us, “he said.
