Vox Media today announced the signing of an agreement to acquire Hot pod, the preeminent publication covering the podcasting industry, founded by Nicholas Quah in 2014. At Vox Media, Hot pod will be part of The edge, with Quah deepening his long-standing relationship with new York and Vulture as a full-time podcast reviewer.
Senior Journalist Ashley Carman will take over as Senior Editor of Hot pod for The edge, expanding Carman’s must-have podcasting and audio coverage. The acquisition also marks The edgefirst paid product because it will continue to publish Hot podthe weekly Hot Pod Insider subscriber newsletter, laying the groundwork for higher compensation Edge products in the future.

TO new York and Vulture, Quah will transition from covering the podcast industry to writing more frequent reviews, essays, interviews and process features, while continuing to publish his weekly 1.5x Speed recommendation newsletter. TO new York and Vulture, Quah joins a list of must-see critics, including Pulitzer Prize winners Jerry Saltz and Justin Davidson; Craig Jenkins, 2021 Pulitzer Prize finalist; critics Angelica Jade Bastién and Kathryn VanArendonk; film critics Alison Willmore and Bilge Ebiri; and television critics Matt Zoller Seitz and Jen Chaney.
