Since then, purchases have been virtually cut or minimized.

But from China it has now been reported that the cases of Covid-19 contagion have begun to decrease and this contributes to an incipient recovery of its economy, which has already been warned, for example, of a greater rate of container unloading at its ports.

Expectations

Under this scenario, the manager of Achievements, José María Roca, acknowledged that an upturn in eastern demand is already beginning to be seen.

“It is incipient, but it does show more interest. It is still somewhat irregular, but my opinion is that it will improve,” he said.

This week, Logros is shipping four containers (they mean about 100 tons) bound for China: two for beef cuts and two for meat meals.

At the peak of demand, at the end of last year, that refrigerator had even sent a daily container just for cuts.

Similarly, the president of the pork refrigerator Qualitá, Luis Picat, pointed out that, after a month without operations, last week they reloaded two containers for China.

This company based in Colonia Caroya began exporting to this market this year. “I don’t know how it will continue to move forward, but in principle it is slowly reactivating,” said Picat.

Piedmont is another company that produces pork and is also authorized to ship to China.

“It may be that there is a request. I am not aware that it is a waterfall, at the moment,” Daniel Giacosa, vice president of the company, answered more cautiously.
