Manchester City and Manchester United make a donation to food banks

Manchester City and Manchester United, two football clubs known for their great neighborhood rivalry, joined forces to make a joint donation of £ 100,000 (€ 117,000) to the food banks in their city (northern England).

In a normal time, the collection in favor of the food banks is organized by the groups of fans of each club separately before their home games. That is no longer possible, as the football season is suspended until at least April 30 in England due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

“We are proud of the role our fans play in helping local food banks and we must recognize the impact that the coronavirus has on these charities,” said the two clubs, which issued a joint statement.

“At a time when our community has a challenge to overcome, we are pleased to join our fans to help vulnerable members of society, in a united city,” the two teams explain.

The donation will go to the 19 food distribution centers in the urban core of Manchester, which depend on the British NGO Trussell Trust.
