French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will present a joint initiative on Monday to revive the European Union (EU) in the context of the coronavirus crisis, the French presidency reported.
The two leaders “will define a Franco-German initiative to respond to the COVID-19 crisis at the European level, in the fields of health, economic recovery, the digital and environmental transition, and industrial sovereignty,” said Elíseo it’s a statement.
The two leaders will hold a videoconference at 13:30 GMT and will give a joint press conference at 15:00 GMT.
During a telephone conversation on May 8, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, the two leaders emphasized the need “more imperative than ever” for European commitment.
The European Commission plans to present on May 27 its proposal to pull the European economy out of the deep recession expected in 2020 due to the crisis of the new coronavirus, which includes a plan to mobilize a trillion euros.
