MEXICO CITY, Mar 14 (Reuters) – The Mexico League announced on Saturday that matches on the tenth day of the local football Closing tournament will be played without an audience as a preventive measure in the face of the worldwide spread of the coronavirus that has infected more than 1,400 , 000 people and left more than 5,000 dead worldwide.

So far, Mexico has reported 26 cases of the outbreak.

“As a preventive and prudent measure, the Federal Government’s health secretariat and the League agreed that the matches of Day 10 of the men’s and women’s tournament, day eight of promotion, as well as the basic forces tournaments will be played behind closed doors “the agency reported.

The tenth day began on Friday with the triumphs of Monarcas Morelia and Tijuana against Querétaro and Pachuca, respectively. Both games were played with the public in the stands.

Later on Saturday the matches between Atlético San Luis Puebla, Tigres UANL-Bravos Ciudad Juárez, León-Pumas UNAM and Guadalajara-Monterrey will be played.

The day will be completed on Sunday when Toluca faces Atlas, Santos Laguna plays against Necaxa and América is Cruz Azul’s rival.

The Mexican tournament remains in competition despite the fact that the main world leagues and various sporting events were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
