The Santa Cruz city of El Calafate decreed quarantine on Tuesday after a positive case of coronavirus was confirmed. The decision was informed by the local mayor, Javier Belloni. So far, 79 people have been infected across the country.

From his Twitter account, Belloni announced: “I hereby notify you that El Calafate is in quarantine. Suspend activities and stay at home. The Ministry of Health of the Province has just informed us that there is a positive case of coronavirus in El Calafate. From this moment all commercial activity is suspended“
In that sense he detailed: “Only supermarkets, markets and pharmacies will remain open. It is important that the hotels and accommodations that are hosting tourists remain in service, taking the necessary precautions until the quarantine ends. ”
On Monday, the local president had already arranged for businesses to have gel alcohol and face masks, and had also suspended activities in gyms and public activities.
First case in Santa Cruz
The tourist case is the first positive in that province.
