The company of French origin has its production focused on Mendoza, for which reason its executives have already contacted the authorities of that province to anticipate the decision.
Bodegas Chandon will thus comply with the measure officialized by the National Institute of Viticulture (INV) a few days ago through which the production of alcohol in gel by the vineyard sector would lead to the free and charitable distribution of almost four million bottles.
The input, essential for the prevention of the coronavirus, is missing from the shelves, due to excess demand.
According to the resolution of the official body, intervened wines will be used, which due to technical deficiencies are not suitable for consumption but due to their high ethyl content, make them ideal for the production of much-needed gel alcohol.
From the sector they explain that it is not about any type of wine but about those called intervened or that were declared unfit for human consumption due to technical deficiencies but whose content of ethyl alcohol “can be used to make gel alcohol, a fundamental element for the hygiene necessary for the prevention of the virus”.
According to data from the INV, the wines intervened are those that arose due to volatile acidity above the established limit or highly exaggerated characteristics of strange and unpleasant aromas and flavors.
Taking this possibility into account, from Chandon they explained that, with the support of the Municipality of Lujan de Cuyo, a donation of alcohol in Gel is being made, which the winery bought to deliver to the main health centers.
And additionally, The company began the procedures with the province’s Ministry of Health for the manufacture of gel alcohol in the warehouse. on a scale to donate production to the main health centers in the province.
As for concrete data, donations cover 1,000 300ml bottles of Gel alcohol plus another 1,000 liters of bulk gel alcohol to be divided and to start production in the warehouse with a first delivery of 1,000 liters per week.
