7 million people have no income

Informal and unemployed workers are the most affected. 5 million monotributistas also face difficulties

The world is on edge because of the coronavirus. Argentina, like other countries, decreed the mandatory quarantine.

In this complex context, experts have been warning about the economic impact of the coronavirus, such as Juan Carlos De Pablo, who maintained that there is a “good news is that the coronavirus is going to happen, the bad news is that you have to prepare for the next quilombo “.

The economist warned that the GDP will suffer and that there are many workers who are facing serious difficulties, running out of income. This group includes independent professionals, employees of bars and restaurants or business owners who are not authorized to lift the blinds, among many other items.

Against this background, the Minister of Social Development, Daniel Arroyo, said on Friday that the social economic cabinet is preparing measures for “monotributistas and informal workers. The situation is being evaluated. The issue has already been raised by President Alberto Fernández for monotributistas y informal workers, such as taxi drivers, waiters, tile workers, gardeners, many people who earn a day and who are not in a situation of poverty, but who live from it, and today have difficulties. “

Happens that, to the 5 million monotributistas, there are about 7 million people who face an even more challenging scenario: These are the informal workers, commonly known as those who work “in black”, as well as the unemployed.

The latest official INDEC data reveals that there are 4,802,000 salaried jobs without contributions to Social Security and another 1,900,000 urban unemployed. Most of them are heads of household or are responsible for the most important family income.

The bulk of the “black” salaried jobs include domestic staff (1,214,000 people), commerce (701,000), tasks related to agriculture (577,000), construction (518,000) and industry (516,000).

Because they work in precariousness and informality, they hardly receive their wages or salaries during the “quarantine“, as the Resolution of the Ministry of Labor marks for workers who continue to work or do so from their homes.

On average, this universe of people receives less than half of what is registered. An incentive is that those with minor children receive the AUH (Universal Child Allowance) and next Friday the 27th they charge an additional $ 3,103 per child, according to ANSeS.

If the recession made it almost impossible to find a job, quarantine directly prevents unemployed people from moving to look for work, not to mention that there is a semi-paralysis of activity, with directly closed businesses.
